Celebration🥳🥂
Well we made it….YaHooo!⛵️
We are exhausted , elated, intact, bruised, chuffed and very very happy to be here at Eden.
How was it ????
Rough!!!!
The magic bit was getting to Gabo Island when we had the full jib out westerly winds and calm seas. Greeted by tail slapping and breaching whales and a large pod of dolphins. Incredible!
We motored most of the way tried the sails many times and just couldn’t make it any more comfortable. Six hours in total of two and a half days of actual sailing.
Big (2-4 metres) short spaced swell’s on the first day/night with everything opposing, current against us strong SE gusting up to 32knots😵💫falling into troughs and violent rolling of LaGecko.
Day 2 a little less dramatic though still clutching on to or wedging ourselves into spaces to stabilise ourselves.
We’ve been initiated!!!!

This is our second 60ml bottle of Larks whisky from our set of three for super special occasions.
The first indulgence (bottle) was with our first boat Katmai in 2019 on our first cruise down the river Derwent from DSS. We anchored at Dennes Point and were so proud of our achievement 😆
The second we are enjoying for our first anchorage on the mainland “Eden” by ourselves and after our first transit of Bass Strait on our own.
A huge shout out and thank you to Scott Poulter for his assistance with weather routing and passage planning during this trip, giving us the confidence to trust our vessel and ourselves.

The third bottle is being saved for ………..?
One response to “Crossing Bass Strait under our command Friday 13th 2024”
save the next bottle for a country neither of you have been to.
