Jervis Bay

The approach to Jervis Bay from the south has the highest cliff in Australia. Point Perpendicular to the north dominates the landscape with its straight squared cliffs standing proudly as the swell pounds away at the base. It truly is a sight to behold.

We are now in ACT!

Huskisson entrance to the township. Hectic with all kinds of water activities (jetski’s) being a long weekend.

Approx 8km wide and 14 km long the entire bay is a marine park surrounded by beautiful bushland and some small towns. Fortunately previous governments that pushed for a nuclear power station and steel mill, failed and it remains mostly in its natural state. It’s also one of the few places we’ve been to that hasn’t had a whaling station.

How to ramp up your old Mercedes. Huskisson.
By far the biggest town in JB. Quaint and modern intertwined.

HMAS Cresswell navy base and college reside in the bay, only visible close up (as we discovered on a dingy jaunt 😳 with do not enter signs along the beach’s ) unless there is a navy ship in port. Over at Long Beach there is a firing range with signage on shore to let you know if the range is active.

After our rough trip up from Broulee Island it was bliss to round Bowen Island into beautiful calm waters at “The Hole in the Wall” and pick up a mooring.

Supermans hangout.

We had mixed wind conditions in JB and moved around the bay quite a bit.

Historic Cape St George lighthouse.

The highlight was a walk out to Cape St George lighthouse ruins that took 36 years to build with much bureaucracy to later be then blown up (top story’s) to be superseded by the light at Pt Perpendicular.

Cape Perpendicular.

We met some lovely people here….. next chapter.
